There have been so many instances when you have lied awake at night wondering why you’re here and not there. You toss and turn in bed playing a million scenarios in your head about the next time you will see him.
There is a long list in your head of stories you want to tell him and places you want to go but most importantly you would be happy just to have him by your side.
There are moments of complete happiness that become shattered with the small realization that he is miles away.
You feel guilty for living your day to day life and have fear of missing out every time he goes out. You struggle with the notion of wanting him to be happy but not wanting to miss out on any new memories he makes.
The phone calls are daily and the FaceTime dates have become ordinary for the type of relationship you find yourself in.
Suddenly “I love you'”s are said too much and are meant wholeheartedly.
You didn’t choose this life.
He chose it and you choose him.
You choose him daily and you must continue to choose him if you plan on seeing this relationship through.
The hardest part comes when he has a job to do and the Navy comes first. It is an adjustment and you must understand the job he signed up for.
Nevertheless, there are special moments.
The moments no other girl gets to experience unless they are in a military relationship themselves.
You find yourself writing letters the ones he will receive when he needs them the most at bootcamp. You will wait in anticipation for a letter back. Your hand will cramp up and I can assure you It will hurt from trying to fit all your emotions in a single blank sheet of paper.
When he graduates boot camp you will find yourself being proud to be an American. You will have new friends that will support you on this journey and you will find that you have never even met them in person.
You will become one of those girls . . . the ones that are on Pinterest looking for their next care package idea. Sending him all the cheez-its and cookies in the world.
The post office has become your second home.
Even though your care package theme doesn’t turn out quite like you wanted to it’s okay because it all becomes worth it when you get a picture in return telling you how much he loves you.
The places you will travel to see him will take you to places you never would’ve imagined of seeing before.
However, there will be those moments too…
That couple across the street holding hands it will stop you in your tracks. You might roll your eyes but only because your hand to hold is miles away.
Sometimes you count down days and other days you count your blessings and say “this is not forever”.
There is a light at the end of this tunnel whatever that maybe you know that this journey is yours and his.
It will be the adventure of a lifetime one that not everyone can handle it.
You get to live this life. You are strong enough and you are loved.
Hold on to hope and hold on to faith.
You found love.
If you found that – you have found it all.
A Navy Girlfriend.
